13 arrested for illegal mining in Atiwa The Kibi Police has arrested 13 men for engaging in illegal mining in the Atiwa Forest Reserve in the Eastern Region. The suspects, aged between 20 to 50 were caught by the Forest Guards during patrol duties in the forest. The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, who disclosed this to newsmen, said the patrol team found with them four water pumping machines, shovels and a single barrel gun. He noted with concern the spate of illegal mining in the Region which is causing great havoc to the land where farming activities are being denied. DCOP Awuni implored the chiefs to cooperate with the police and stop leasing lands for illegal mining, adding that they should go beyond their parochial interest. GBC
