Japan supports UN agency efforts to help Syrians in Lebanon


A US$2 million emergency grant from Japan will assist two UN agencies as they respond to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon.

Half of the funding will support host communities through a joint initiative between Lebanon's Ministry of Social Affairs and the UN Development Program (UNDP).

The remaining funding will allow the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to run community centres and refugee volunteer outreach programs.

Lebanon is hosting more than one million Syrians who have fled the conflict in their homeland.
