NPP Conference underway in Sunyani


The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Extraordinary Delegates’ Conference is underway at the Coronation Park in Sunyani, Brong-Ahafo Region.

At least 6,500 delegates and hundreds of party executives across the country are attending the national conference to outdoor the party’s 2016 campaign team among other matters affecting the party.

The day’s conference is being attended by delegates from all the 10 regions is on the theme: “Arise for Change 2016,” was declared commenced at about 1130 hours by Mr Freddie Blay, the Acting National Chairman after both Christian and Muslem prayers were said.

Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo, the flag bearer and leader of the Party for Election 2016 and his running mate, Alhaji Dr Mohammadu Bawumiah arrived at the venue at about 1115 hours where the delegates cheered them with a deafening applause.

Among personalities of the party at the event are former President John Agyekum Kufuor, members of the Council of Elders including Mr Hackman Owusu Agyemang and Madam Ama Busia, members of the National Council and the National Executive Committee as well as the Party’s past and current members of parliament.

The highlights of the program include a report by the acting General Secretary, Mr John Boadu, Mr Blay, about the current state of the party and a message from Madam Busia on behalf of the Council of Elders.

The other aspects would be Mr Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the Minority Leader’s report on the party’s parliamentary affairs, address by ex-President Kufuor, introduction of the National Campaign Team and the parliamentary candidates for Election 2016 and finally an address by Nana Akufo Addo.


The conference will also consider the following:
1. Ag. National Chairman’s Report
2. National Treasurer’s Report
3. Introduction of NPP Parliamentary Candidates.

The party’s Constitution allows for the National Executive Committee (NEC) to serve notice and hold an Extraordinary National Delegates Conference when it deems it necessary.


Reports say security presence at the Coronation Park is heavy.
