Coordinating Director assures Bolga municipal an open-door policy 


The Bolgatanga Municipal Coordinating Director, Abass Ketigwe, has assured the people in the municipality that the assembly will operate an open-door policy in his administration in ways that seeks to improve the living standards of the people. 

The Coordinator gave the assurance at a Town Hall Meeting organized by the assembly through the ministry of local government and rural development at Sumbrungu a suburb of Bolgatanga. 

Mr. Abass Ketigwe made the assertion on behalf of the assembly since the assembly is without a Presiding member and a Municipal Chief Executive. 

The meeting was aimed at interacting with the various segments of society and to also create a plat form for them to ask relevant questions on development issues and the utilization of assembly resources to better their lives. 

Members of the public asked questions including the expensive cost of building materials, clear policy on education, improvement in education through improved conditions of teachers and compensation for lands used for government businesses. 

They also suggested the need for government to arrange a uniform pricing system for building products in the country.   

Mr. Abass Ketigwe said they were mandated by the constitution to account for their stewardship and the management of the public resources that have been entrusted into their care by the people. 

He said the government has constantly been reforming the local government systems to empower local authorities to enable them deliver their mandate to the people through planned programs and projects that meet their aspirations. 

He indicated that the assembly attaches greater importance to grass-root participation in its process as the hall mark for sustainable development and for that reason it has committed the needed resources to strengthen the sub-structures to perform effectively. 


The Bolgatanga Municipal Planning Officer, Emmanuel Liedib, explained that four councilors were drawn from each of the zonal councils of the assembly and given orientation on the operations of their functional areas to enable them undertake effective grass -root mobilization for community development and revenue generation for the assembly to implement its earmarked programs and projects. 

This, he said, has brought some good returns to the assembly in terms of revenue mobilization because those areas which could not realize any revenue previously are now showing positive signs of performing well in revenue generation. 

He therefore call on all stakeholders and the general public to rally behind the assembly so that the available resources could be utilized effectively to propel the assembly in to an enviable level that guarantees shared growth and prosperity for all in the municipality. 

Mr. Liedib said the assembly spent a chunk of its revenue on the provision of educational infrastructure, scholarships, and sponsorship for educational activities. 

He said despite the massive investment, records on educational pursuit were not encouraging. 

The Planner, therefore called for an educational forum that will encompass all stakeholders in the sector to dilate on the performance of first and second cycle schools and map out pragmatic strategies to address the problem.
