Parliament approves budgetary allocation for Defence Ministry for next year


Parliament has approved seven hundred and 61 million to cover the expenditure of the Ministry of Defence for next year. 

Moving for its approval, the Chairman of the committee on Defence and Interior, Fritz Baffour said with the pivotal role being played by the Ministry, it was imperative that the house approves its entire budgetary allocation. 

He said when confronted by inadequate funding, there will be a long term adverse effect on the security services to effectively respond to crisis situations.
 
Mr. Baffour requested the ministry of finance to find extra budgetary allocation to support the work of the armed forces.

The minister of Defence, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour said arrangements have already been made with the Ministry of Finance to provide the extra budgetary support. 

He however prayed them to expedite process the funds.

Also approved were the budget estimates for the Ministries of the Interior, Health, Petroleum and Finance. 

The ministry for the Interior got one point three billion Ghana Cedis with the Health ministry getting four point eight billion Ghana Cedis. 

The ministry of Finance will be using two hundred and 72 million Ghana Cedis for the 2016 financial year while the ministry of Petroleum will be financed with 40 million Ghana Cedis.
