President Mahama Optimistic Poverty Can Be Eradicated By 2030 President John Mahama says he is optimistic poverty can be eradicated by 2030 as spelt out in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. He said Ghana in spite of her challenges was able to half poverty in two decades. Addressing a joint news conference with the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim at the Flagstaff House in Accra, President Mahama said efforts at addressing income inequality are ongoing, and for 2015, more than seven point five billion cedis has been earmarked for pro-poor spending. President Mahama said the government is not complacent but will continue to initiate pro-poor policies and programmes towards poverty eradication in Ghana. The President used the occasion to express the gratitude of ECOWAS to the World Bank for supporting the three West African countries hit by Ebola. Dr. Kim said, the World bank chose to launch its report dubbed " Poverty in a Rising Africa' in Ghana because tough decisions taken by the Ghanaian government are putting the country's economy back on the path of growth. He said, Ghana's experience in poverty reduction must be emulated by other African countries, since the entire continent will be the ultimate beneficiary. The two leaders prior to the news conference, held a closed door meeting which focused on a number of issues. GBC
