Ghana pays N-Gas $10 million as part payment to avert gas cut-off


Ghana has made a part payment of $10 million to Nigerian Gas (N-Gas) to avert a planned disruption of gas supply to the country.

Nigeria Gas (N-Gas), the company that ships gas to the Volta River Authority (VRA) through the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) had asked that the supply of gas be truncated by midnight Thursday, October 15, 2015, if the VRA failed to pay a debt of US$103 million.

However, the company deferred the plan to disrupt gas flow to the VRA after frantic negotiations with a Ghanaian delegation led by the Minister for Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor to Nigeria.

Reports say the decision not to curtail gas supply to Ghana was taken after the country paid the about 10 per cent – of its debt to N-Gas.
