Paralegals needed to address alleged abuses criminals suffer in police custody 

The Regional Coordinator of the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Mina Mensah, says the engagement of paralegals will help address alleged abuses criminals suffer while in police custody.

She said since police stations are the entry points to the criminal justice system, using paralegals will help to de-congest police cells and prisons. 

Miss Mensa stated this at the start of activities to mark this year's Legal Aid Week.

She stressed that engaging paralegals will facilitate the work of lawyers since there are not enough lawyers in the country.
