Dr. Rawlings sailed through NDC vetting


Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, a daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been cleared to contest the parliamentary primaries for the Klottey Korle constituency seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Dr. Zanetor is eyeing the Klottey Korle constituency seat on the ticket of the NDC in the 2016 elections.

Ahead of the vetting, some party officials accused her of not being a card bearing member of the party among other allegations. However, she sailed through when she appeared before the vetting committee on Thursday.

She said she cannot ignore her parents in her bid to become Member of Parliament for the area.

According to her, her parents and their political history have been part of her growth and she therefore cannot distance herself from them only because she is getting into active politics.

The daughter of former president Jerry Rawlings made the comments in reaction to claims that her parents political history may play to her disadvantage in the November 7 polls of the ruling party.  

Dr Ezanetor Rawlings will be contesting the Greater Accra regional minister Nii Armah Ashietey who is the incumbent MP for the constituency in the November 7, 2015.

Meanwhile, five aspirants in the Greater Accra region have been disqualified. They are Leeford Nii Kpako Quarshie (Klottey Korle Constituency), Tony Afenyo (Ashaiman Constituency), Michael Kwetey Tetteh (Ningo Prampra), Isaac Awuku (Dome Abra Obom) and Opolu William Kwesi Ahamadzi (Amasama).

A total of 108 aspirants are to be vetted in the two-day exercise ahead of the primaries.
