Discussions underway to create special Courts to prosecute sanitation offenders Discussions are underway with the Chief Justice for the creation of special courts to facilitate the prosecution of sanitation offenders. This is to enhance massive participation in the National Sanitation Day exercise instituted by the Local Government Ministry to help keep the country clean. The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who disclosed this at the inauguration of the Seventh Assembly of the New Juaben Municipality in the Eastern Region, urged the newly elected Assembly members to take the responsibility to sensitize the electorate to this before they fall foul of the sanitation laws. He also charged them to live up to the responsibilities reposed in them by their people. Mr Debrah further challenged the Assembly members to serve the people in their areas, and to improve their general living conditions as well as make them part of the decision making process and governance at the local level. Outlining the roles of the Assembly members, Mr Debrah said it is the duty the Assembly member to explain policies for a better understanding to the ordinary Ghanaian. He noted that the unique roles Assembly members play has helped to promote good governance, democracy and peace in the country. Mr Debrah further advised the members to collate the views and opinions of their people on issues to be discussed for presentation to the Assembly. The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Kwaku Owusu Acheampong, congratulated both Elected and Appointed Assembly Members on their election victory and appointment by the President. He further extended his gratitude and appreciation to the previous assembly members for the meritorious service during their tenure of service. In all, fifty-four elected assembly members and twenty-four government appointees were inaugurated. They took the oath of secrecy and official oath administered by the Chief of Staff. GBC
