Tamale to host National Sanitation Week 


The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development will move National Sanitation week to Tamale beginning from 2nd February to eighth February to execute official activities in the northern Region. 

In this regard, the Local Government Minister and his two deputies as well as the Chief Director of the Ministry are expected in the region by 2nd February. 

The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Lumuna disclosed this at a press briefing ceremony in tamale to announce the activities and the preparedness to host next month’s National sanitation week. 

He said as part of activities to mark the day, the 13 districts have been ear marked for the Local Government Minister and his officers to visit. 

The Minister will interact with chiefs, youth groups and opinion leaders to enlighten them on the importance on the National Sanitation Week. He will also inspect on-going government projects in these selected Districts. 

According to Alhaji Muniru-Lumuna, all the traditional leaders will participate effectively in the cleaning up exercise. He said Chiefs are respected people in their communities and will play significant role in sanitation. 

The Deputy Minister of Local Government, Nii Lamptey Vandapuye commended the media for their support in all National Sanitation weeks’ activities in the country. He said the National Sanitation week has come to stay and called on every one to embrace it. 

Mr lamptey Vandapuye further disclosed that a bill has been prepared to legalized the day and called on the public not to politicize the National Sanitation week since diseases do not have political colors. 

The MP for Yapei-Kusawgu, who is the leader of the Northern Caucus in parliament, said sanitation issues are critical for the country’s quest to development. 

He therefore called on the public to see the exercise as one their own devoid partisan politics to make the region filt free.
