Public risk death if it consumes rabies infected meat

The Veterinarian in charge of Public Health of the Ghana Veterinary Service, Dr Bashiro Kikimoto, has expressed concern about the increase in rabies related deaths in the country.

Dr Kikimoto told Radio Ghana that the situation is alarming and appealed to owners of pets to send their dogs and cats to veterinary units for vaccination.

On dogs and cats as a delicacy, Dr Kikimoto said they can transfer diseases to man when eaten.

Dr Kikimoto advised District Assemblies to look at the bye-laws and enforce the vaccination of pets to prevent innocent people from dying of rabies. He also advised Ghanaians to consume well cooked meat.
