Churches filled to capacity on 31st night Most churches in the Tema Metropolis were filled to capacity as Christians ushered in the New Year. Clad in white attires, they danced to glorify God for seeing them through another year. The Senior Minister of the First Baptist Church at Community Five, Reverend Osei Kwabena Nkrahene said Christians most often come to church with expectations during watch night services however they go back to their old ragged ways which does not conform to Christianity. He said New Year resolutions must be treated with all seriousness as purity in Christ must be maintained to enable one’s resolutions be realized. At the Grace Presbyterian Church at Tema Community Eleven, the resident minister, Reverend Joyce Akweley Adoteye challenged Christians to live lives worthy of emulation. She said 2015 is a year of peace and prosperity but it can only be achieved through hard work and humility. She said although 2014 has been challenging with determination 2015 will be extremely better. Members at the Zoe Temple of the International Central Gospel Church at Community Five, were treated to some vintage songs by ace gospel musical group, Daughters of Glorious Jesus. Prayers were said on behalf of the nation and the three arms of government. The preacher urged the congregation to walk in the orientation of the rainbow covenant in the face of difficulties in the New Year. Most churches in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality were filled with both regular and occasional worshippers clad in white attires to signify their joy at making it to the end of the year, and to bid farewell to 2014, while entering the New Year with commitment and re-dedication to the work of God. At the stroke of midnight, there were spontaneous shouts of “Happy New Year”, amidst jubilation, singing, dancing and waving of white handkerchiefs, in honour of God. In a sermon at the Teshie Victory Chapel of the Global Evangelical Church, the Synod Clerk of the Church, Reverend Prince Tefe said 2014 has been one of the difficult years in the history of Ghana, but with determination, Ghanaians will be able to sail through in the New Year. Preaching on the theme: 'Walking in the Light,' Reverend Tefe said the challenges of 2015 are not known therefore Ghanaians must allow themselves to be led by the light of God to the desired destination. The Parish Pastor of the Church, Reverend Mawuli Dzidula Agudogo led members to prayer for the leadership of the nation. In a message, Reverend Agudogo urged Ghanaians to avoid acts that threaten Country’s peace, but rather concentrate on selfless building of the Country. He noted that greed for power and wealth, cheating, injustice and corruption must be avoided by Christians. He enjoined Christians to respect and obey laws that favour peace and the rights of other people irrespective of their status, religion or sex. Preaching on the theme "Your Dry Bones Are Coming Back To Life," Rev. Eric Xexemeku of ICGC Open Heavens at Adjringanor, East Legon said Ghana will revive itself if Ghanaians rededicate themselves to true worship. He said it does not matter where Ghanaians find themsleves, but he is hopeful that 2015 will be a successful year. He added that Ghana will from the beginning of this year, move from glory to glory and no works by the devil will be able to hinder such glory. While, the watch night services were going on, other people, mostly the youth, converged at various points, night clubs and on the streets, dancing to blaring music. GBC
