Ghanaians losing sense of patriotism - Rt Rev Prof Martey

Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, says it has become imperative for the country to see to the revival of patriotism of which Ghanaians are noted for. 

He said the current creeping culture of intolerance has eaten deep into the moral fabrics of Ghanaians, and has to a large extent paved way for lawlessness and high level of corruption in our places of work. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana’s Isaac Asare in Bolgatanga, Rt. Rev Prof Martey, said the country was losing its sense of patriotism in the name of material gains and until we change our attitude, the country was heading for self-destruction.

He said society was gradually losing its hold on morality because most public officials holding positions of trust are corrupted though they claim they have the country at heart.  

These corrupt officials, he said indulge in corrupt activities with impunity, thus, challenging the credibility of the rule of law.  

Citing the recent cocaine saga, Rt. Rev Prof.  Martey, conceded that the country was ruled by law and law without force is impotent.

He however, challenged players in the judiciary to be guided by common sense and allow the laws to work if anyone goes contrary to it.
