138 Journalists Violated Since 2004 - Survey A survey by Media Foundation for West Africa an NGO, has revealed that the security agencies and political affiliates dominated the list of perpetrators of crimes against journalists. According to the Foundation, 138 journalists have been violated since 2004 and there is no sign of the number dwindling. To this end, the UNESCO representative to Ghana, Tirso Dos Santos has called for strict adherence to the rule of law which protects and respects the rights of citizens especially journalists. Mr. Dos Santos said Ghana cannot pride herself in enforcing freedom of speech when in practical terms persons who champion that cause are abused with impunity. He said this in Accra at a forum to mark the first international day to end impunity for crimes against journalists.
