Ghana Marks World Food Day Tomorrow

Stakeholders in the food sector or food distribution chain have been asked to use Thursday’s World Food Day celebration to reflect on the significant contribution of small holder farmers to food security.

Speaking on Radio Ghana’s Current Affairs Programme, “Focus,” which discussed the World Food Day, the Programme Officer in-charge of Crops, Agribusiness and Policy at the Food and Agriculture Organisation, Mark Kwame Offei said though food insecurity records are declining, more needs to be done to sustain the trend.

He said the celebration of the day on Thursday should urge people on to reflect and find appropriate means of supporting small scale farmers to boost production to feed everyone.

Contributing to the programme via telephone, Vera Boahene of the World Food Programme said small holder farmers play important and enormous roles in the provision of food.

She asked corporate Ghana and those in the food and nutrition sector to help advance the course of these farmers.
