Investing in teachers is to invest in the future says UNESCO Teachers are an investment for the future of countries. That's the message of the UN's educational organization, UNESCO, on this year's World Teacher's Day. UNESCO is highlighting that teachers need the skills, knowledge and support that will enable them to meet the diverse learning needs of every girl and boy. According to the organization, the quality of education is undermined by a deficit of teachers, with 1.4 million needed in classrooms. In addition, all too often teachers work without resources or proper training, which also affects the quality of their work. UNESCO is therefore calling for teachers to remain a priority, to ensure that 250 million children who haven't yet acquired basic skills of reading and writing are given the opportunity to learn.
