NDC Greets Muslims on Eid al-Adha The National Democratic Congress, NDC congratulates the Muslim Community and, wishes them well on this special occasion as they celebrate the Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) is an Islamic festival which is observed by Muslims the world over in order to commemorate the event when Ibrahim (also called Abraham) showed willingness to follow Allah's command to sacrifice his son Ishmael. A statement issued in Accra says “Eid Adha which is an important milestone in the history of Islam. You have over the years remained committed and dedicated yourselves to the course of prayer to seek the face of Allah. This course has been fruitful and beneficial not only to Muslims but to Ghanaians and the world as whole.” The statement which was signed by Mr. George Lawson, Acting General Secretary says the party believes that the continuous prayers of the Muslim community has contributed and will continue to foster the harmonious co-existence which has become the bedrock for peace and tranquility, stability and development in the country. “It is the view of the NDC that the existing harmony, peace and tolerance enjoyed among the major faiths in the country will be sustained and strengthened in the interest of the nation as we approach the end of the year.” “We wish to reiterate that as a ruling government, the NDC will not renege on its role and responsibility of promoting the interest of all faith, including Islam and, continue in the effort of exploring potential areas of relevance to augment the cause of Islam in Ghana. The NDC believes this will help develop the full potential of our Muslim brothers and sisters to enable them contribute their quota to nation building.” The statement stated. The NDC according to the statement urges all Ghanaians to use this occasion to continue preaching peace, love and unity to consolidate the congenial and peaceful environment currently existing in the country. “We wish all Ghanaian Pilgrims to the Holy land of Mecca a fulfilling pilgrimage and a safe journey back home.” LONG LIVE ISLAM, LONG LIVE GHANA.
