Parliament Approves Funds for Kasoa Interchange Project


The Parliament of Ghana  has approved a Credit Facility Agreement totaling  US $172,576,243 between the Government of Ghana and Deutsche Bank New York Branch and its Affiliates for the design and construction of the Kasoa Interchange and Ancillary Works.

The project comprises a Construction of 200m of Interchange Bridge, new roundabout, drainage and public lighting, 2000m of Accra-Cape Coast Highway, local roads within the catchment of the interchange and 1640m of roads towards Nyanyano and Bawjiase.

The Credit Facility Agreement was approved by the House yesterday during the 3rd day of its Emergency Sitting.

Moving the Motion, for the adoption of the report of the Finance Committee on the contract, Chairman of the Committee, Mr James Klutse Avedzi, described the project as critical since it would improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and stimulate local economic growth between the Accra Metropolitan Area and the Central Region.

The Committee Chairman noted that the in current situation, traffic built up during the weekends especially, in the East-West Direction and result in massive congestion.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, in a contribution to the motion said the implementation of the project would improve the flow of traffic on the Accra-Cape Coast highway and also improve the quality of life of the people and improve local roads within the project area.

Mr Fuseini added that when the modalities of the Infrastructure Fund was completed the needed infrastructure would be provided across the country and old projects rehabilitated to expand social economic facilities.

In another development, the House also approved a Contract between CONSTRUTORA QUEIROZ GALVAO S.A for the Accra Streets Resurfacing Projects.

The project which is expected to cost over US$40 million will be used to resurface selected roads in Accra Metropolis in order to reduce traffic congestion, and travel time and enhance economic growth within the Metropolis.

Selected major roads and minor arterial roads to be rehabilitated with asphalt  include the  Adabraka, Adenta, Abgogba, Chorkor, Dansoman, Haatso, Kanda (North and South), Korle-Gonno, Kpehe, La, Laterbiokoshie, New Town, Nungua, Madina, Mamprobi, Sukura and Teshie roads.
