Preparation underway for Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries Governments around the world are meeting on Friday at UN Headquarters to discuss ways of boosting the economic development of some of the poorest countries in the world. Thirty-two so called Landlocked Developing Countries, or LLDCs, are preparing for a 10-year review conference, which will take place later this year in Vienna. The conference will address the special development needs and challenges LLDCs are still facing. The countries have a combined population of 440 million, with no direct territorial access to the sea.
