UK Parliament to vote for Iraq Airstrikes on Islamic State

Members of the UK Parliament will be voting on whether the UK should join US-led air strikes on Islamic State in Iraq.

The Tories, Liberal Democrats and Labour all back the action, which the coalition says is legal because it was requested by the Iraqi government.

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said the campaign could be a "long haul" of two to three years.

Islamic State has seized large parts of Iraq and Syria in recent months.

The group, also known as Isis has used tactics that have included be-headings of soldiers, Western journalists and aid workers.

According to the CIA it could have as many as thirty-one thousand fighters in Iraq and Syria.
