AMA closes down Dynasty Restaurant As Noble House and Frankies Cautioned

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday closed down the Dynasty Chinese Restaurant as part of the assembly’s fight against cholera.

The AMA has started a crackdown on unhygienic restaurants, eateries and chop bars in the capital in the wake of a cholera outbreak that has left more than 130 people dead.

Director of the Public Health Directorate of the AMA, Dr Sampson Anim Boateng said they decided to close down the restaurant because it had an unhygienic kitchen, algae-infested surroundings close to the kitchen and grease and soot had accumulated on the heat extractors in the kitchen.

A defective gas cylinder in the kitchen had a stone on top of the regulator, probably to prevent a leakage of the gas.

“Actually people had urinated just close to the kitchen, the kitchen itself was not in the best shape, there were cob webs, soot, infact we realised that we had to close it down for them to rectify the situation”.

Simpson told host Kafui Dey, that the popular Chinese restaurant has been given a 24-hour ultimatum to fix the place or face further sanctions.

Apart from the Dynasty restaurant, two popular restaurants in Osu — Noble House Chinese Restaurant and Frankies Hotel and Restaurant received cautions to rectify some anomalies in their operations or risk closure.

Simpson added that most of the health violations with Frankies and Noble House are minor and could be fixed in less than an hour.

Ahead of Thursday’s exercise, 30 chop bars were closed down at Agbogbloshie, also in Accra, for selling under unhygienic conditions last Tuesday.

Food items being sold by the chop bars were destroyed to prevent their sale to unsuspecting members of the public.
