US doubts reports of Boko Haram leader's death

The United States says it doubts reports from the Nigerian military that Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has been killed in recent clashes with troops.

A senior state department official said Nigerians have announced several times that the head of Boko Haram was dead and every single time the reports appear untrue.

The Nigerian defence ministry on Wednesday announced the death of Shekau.

But analysts dismissed it as propaganda.
