Eastern Regional Health Director counsels Health Workers to intensify visits to homes & child welfare clinics


The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Charity Sarpong, has advised Public Health Nurses to intensify their visits to homes and child welfare clinics. 

She also appealed to them to revive the old practice of moving to the markets, schools, churches and the community to educate the populace on the outbreak of communicable and air-borne diseases. 

Dr. Sarpong gave the advice at the opening of the 28th Annual General Meeting of the Public Health Nurses in Koforidua in the New Juaben Municipality. 

She entreated the Nurses, to upgrade themselves academically, in order to be abreast with technology to effectively tackle health related issues using technological approach. 

She urged them to desist from the old ways of providing solutions to the public. Dr. Sarpong also tasked them not to be arm-chair nurses, since their profession does not entertain such act. 

The Deputy Director of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Quansah Asare, revealed that no case of Neonatal Tetanus has been recorded in Ghana since 2011. She added that, this is a credit to the health Ministry and called on the Public Health Nurses to work tirelessly in ensuring that, the record is maintained. 

She appealed to the government to provide the health ministry with the requisite tools and logistics as well as technical know-how, to facilitate effective and efficient services in the ministry. 

She lamented that, it is disheartening when health professionals are faced with the problem of inadequate and inefficient working tools to deliver good services to patients, especially those working in the deprived areas of the country. 

The National Chairman of the Public Health Nurses Group, Rose Victoria Akuaku, commended one of their sponsors, Nestle for educating lactating mothers to stick to the recommended six months exclusive breastfeeding of their babies although they manufacture babies foods. 

The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben, Dr. Kwaku-Owusu Acheampong, tasked MMDA’s to enforce by-laws in their areas of jurisdiction to curb the cholera menace facing the country.
