Ten Ghanaians, two Chinese nationals in police grips for illegal mining Ten Ghanaians and two Chinese nationals have been arrested by Operatives of the Anti-galamsey Committee and handed over to the police in the Ashanti Region for engaging in illegal mining. The Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, formed the committee as part of efforts to stop the practice which is causing damage to river bodies in the region. The Minister has also ordered the arrest of the Adansi South District NADMO Coordinator, Robert Gyamase, for allegedly promoting illegal mining activities in the area. In an interview with Radio Ghana, the PRO of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Clement Kegeri said equipment used for the operation have been confiscated. He added that the Chinese nationals involved have also been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service. GBC
