Need For Authorities To Rid City Of Filth Stressed

The increase in cholera cases across the country is a major concern to most Ghanaians and even the Presidency. 

It is in the light of this that panelists on Radio Ghana’s current affairs programme, “Focus,” agreed that a lot needs to be done by city authorities to rid the city of filth. 

The Director of Waste Management at the AMA, Sam Kpodo, said the AMA needs an engineered dump site to complement the existing ones and also to effectively make the city clean of filth and diseases. 

Mr Kpodo however mentioned that enforcement of the bye laws has become a major challenge and AMA has therefore put in place a committee to enforce sanitation bye laws in the city. 

Also on the programme was a Health Policy Analyst, Patrick Apoya, who noted that diseases caused by lack of water and sanitation lead the current profile of cases reported at health facilities, yet not much attention is given to improve on them.
