Rise In Cholera Cases Attributed To Filth

The Deputy Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Cynthia Kwakye Maclean, has attributed the rise in cholera cases to filth and called on the public to observe personal and environmental hygiene. 

She cautioned against indiscriminate defecating and dumping of refuse which have caused cholera outbreak in almost all the regions. 

Dr Maclean in an interview in Koforidua said the region has for the past six weeks recorded 506 cholera cases in 12 Districts and Municipalities. 

She disclosed that the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality leads with 231 cases followed by Akwapim North with 86, while the New Juaben Municipality is ranked third with 52 cases. 

She said though no death has been recorded, there is the need for all to help fight the epidemic.
