GHS Takes Steps to Ensure Ports & Borders are Safe from Ebola as Ashanti Regional Health Directorate Dismisses the scare

The Ghana Health Service says though it is collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that the ports and borders are safe from the Ebola virus, it will be difficult to detect the disease especially if it is in its early stages. 

He said the Ebola virus takes 21 days
before it incubates and anybody with it for the first day may go undetected unless the person shows early signs of vomiting and bleeding through the nose. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Director of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira asked the public to be on the look out for early symptoms of the disease and quickly report to any health facility.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has refuted
reports that some suspected Ebola patients came into the country from
Liberia and were admitted at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.


Addressing a news conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health, Dr. Alexis Nang-Beifubah said the people are not Liberians but Ghanaians. 

He also added that they were properly screened at the borders before making their way into the Country. 

Officials of the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital were also present at the news
conference.
