Residents of Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo Embarked on a Peace March as Part of Efforts to Bring Lasting Peace to the Area  


Residents of Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo are staging a peace march through the principal streets of Nakpanduri on Saturday July 26 2014, as part of efforts to bring lasting peace to the area. 

The march is being organized by the West African Network for Peace Building (WANEP) in partnership with other stakeholders in the peace process in the area. 

Konkombas and Bimobas in the area have engaged each other in perennial conflict over a piece of land in the area. 

The conflict has resulted in several deaths in the past and properties worth several millions of Ghana Cedis have been destroyed. 

The conflict has also displaced many indigenes from the area.  

According to the organizers of the programme, the march will end up on the piece of land that has been a bone of contention between the two groups. 

The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has tried several times in the past to resolve the matter. 

The latest attempt to find a lasting solution to the problem started a couple of months ago, with trust building through meetings at the Nayiri’s Palace. 

The factions have since exchanged visits to each other’s communities, whilst youth groups from both sides have participated in joint activities to build friendship and eliminate mutual suspicion.
