Ashanti Regional Police Command Meets Various Zongo Chiefs on Incident-free of Eild-ul Fitir Celebration in Kumasi


The Ashanti Regional Police Command, upon the advice of the Ashanti Regional Security Council, has met various Zongo Chiefs within the Kumasi metropolis to fashion out a security strategy to ensure an incident-free celebration of Eild-ul Fitir by the Muslim community on Monday July 28 2014. 

A statement signed by the Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Osei Ampofo-Duku and issued to the media in Kumasi said all the parties have agreed to the implementation of some measures with the objective of maintaining the prevailing peace and order in the Zongo communities in particular, and the region in general. 

For this reason, the Yuroba, Dagomba and Bruilsa chiefs as well as any other persons who know their positions are in contention should not take part in any public procession or ride on horseback during the celebration. 

The statement emphasized that only the Zongo Chiefs recognized by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu will be allowed to mount their houses. 

Additionally, only tribal chiefs and no other sectional head should take part in the procession. 

It entreated every Muslims who will take part in the Eid-ul Fitir procession to do so with extreme caution since anyone caught violating the directives will be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other people. 

The statement therefore urged all those concerned to fully cooperate with the measures for the sake of peace and security. 

The Police Command wished all Muslims a happy Eid-ul Fitir.
