A/R Minister Reminds MMDAS to Comply with President’s Directive to Complete Street Naming Project  

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, has reminded the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within his jurisdiction that they have just two-months from now to fully comply with the President’s directive to them to complete the Street Naming project in major towns in their respective areas. 

President John Mahama, in March last year, launched the National Street Naming Project by which streets in every major community in the country must be named within 18 months from that month. 

Addressing members of the Asante Bekwai Municipal and Amansie Central District Assemblies during his familiarization tour, Dr. Sarpong however acknowledged the challenges most of the MMDAs are still facing in the implementation processes which has led caused some delays in the implementation processes . 

The Regional Minister said, as part of measures to ensure smooth implementation of the exercise, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Town and Country Department, has organized a workshop for the MMDAs in the Ashanti region, to improve on their technical capacities to extend the street naming exercise to all major towns in their districts.
 
According to Dr. Sarpong, the MMDAs will derive enormous benefits from the street naming exercise, especially in service delivery, security, social services as well as in revenue generation. 

He therefore advised the Assembly Members and officials in charge of the project to quickly put their acts together to ensure speedy implementation of the project. 

He also called for good working relations among all the stakeholders in the MMDAs to propel socio-economic development of their respective districts. 

The Asante Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Mary Juantua disclosed that the Assembly has taken a number of initiatives towards meeting the President’s timeline for implementation of the street naming project. She assured the Regional Minister that everything possible is being done to comply with the directive by September.
