Parliament Vets Four Ministerial Nominees

Four Ministerial Nominees on Wednesday appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to answer questions relating to the Ministries they have been appointed to head. 

The Nominees are the Minister Designate for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Nii Osah Mills, the Upper East Regional Minister designate, James Zuugah Tiigah, the Central Regional Nominee, Aquinas Quansah and the Eastern Regional Minister designate, Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere. 

Responding to questions on illegal mining, the Nominee for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, Nii Osah Mills said if given the nod, he will try to improve the current schemes being implemented to stop galamse using the President’s Task Force and applying the laws, engage in sensitization of the youth while working with the chiefs to avoid the practice. 

He promised to intensify the campaign for the use of Liquefied petroleum gas to discourage the use of fuel-wood which leads to deforestation. 

Nii Osah Mills also told the MPs that he will pursue the land title administration project and continue with the policy of returning lands acquired by the state and are not being used for the intended purpose back to the original owners. 

The Nominee for the Upper East Region, James Zuugah Tiigah pledged to create a website solely for the promotion of tourism and investment in the region.

He told  the Committee that he will marshal all available resources  towards the resolution of conflicts in the region and restore peace in troubled areas particularly Bawku. 

The central Regional Minister Nominee, Aquinas Quansah said works on the Cape Coast Stadium and the Kotokraba market are progressing steadily and when approved he will ensure that the projects are completed on time.
