Teachers Welcome Use of Both Eng & Local Lang's as Medium of Instruction in Early Stages of Education Basic school teachers have welcomed the use of both English and the local languages as the medium of instruction in early stages of education. The issue of language policy in education has been a controversial one, with various governments changing the policy from time to time. While, experts believe the use of local language as a medium of instruction in the early stages, helps the children to acquire the skills in literacy and numeracy faster, others have contrary views. New studies however show that, a combination of both local language and English has greater dividends. In view of this, the Ministry of Education has launched a manual to guide teachers in lower primary.
