UTAG Warns Government Over Payment of Book and Research Allowances The University Teachers' Association of Ghana (UTAG) says government should be prepared to pay the Book and Research Allowances of its members for two academic years if it delays in the payment for the 2013/2014 academic year till September 2014. According to UTAG it disagrees with a recent press statement made by Deputy Minister in charge of Tertiary Education; Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa that; the payment of the Book and Research Allowances for the 2013/2014 academic year is not delayed and that they would be paid in September this year. In a statement signed by its National president Samuel Ofori Bekoe,UTAG said the allowances are usually paid at the beginning of every academic year ,August, September. However, for reasons best known to Government the allowances have, in the past few years, been often delayed and paid at the end of the academic year, which is in June or July. It says although UTAG has so far managed to contain the mounting pressure on various campuses, it may no longer be in a position to prevent the situation from escalating anytime soon if Government does not move away from its current lack of urgency and slow pace towards resolving the program GBC
