France takes extra security measures in airports at US request 

France’s Civil Aviation Authority has announced extra security checks on direct flights to the US at the request of America.  

The new measures "will be carried out in a way so as to limit as much as possible inconvenience to passengers.   

Earlier, the US Secretary of Homeland Security said it will tighten security at overseas airports that have direct flights to the United States. 

Washington is concerned by reports al-Qaeda insurgents in Syria and Yemen are working on bombs designed to be smuggled past airport screening and onto planes.

The UK has also ramped up security at its airports.  

Russian airport authorities however say they have not received any requests from the US and are not yet planning to introduce any additional security measures.
