Osei Tutu Senior High School closed down The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Education has with immediate effect closed down Osei Tutu Senior High School at Akropong near Kumasi. The decision follows violent demonstration by students of the school which led to the smashing of the Headmaster’s car and some other vehicles on campus by the students. The Regional Director of Education, Joseph Kwabena Onyinah in an interview said the students attacked the headmaster’s car during his absence, accusing him for being the cause of the school’s abysmal performance in the on-going Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools Athletics Competition. They failed to win a slot in their Zone Four Group to compete in the Super Zonals scheduled for the 24th and 25th of this month. They alleged that, the headmaster who is a Reverend Minister has no interest in sports hence, his inability to provide necessary logistics and support to enhance the school’s chances in sports. Mr. Onyinah explained that, the school’s management will soon meet to appoint a committee to investigate the causes of the disturbances and recommend how to avoid future recurrences. The meeting will also decide when to recall the students for lecturers to resume as soon as possible in the interest of the final year students who are preparing for their examination in April.
