The National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, Kofi Portuphy, has resigned.

He tended in his resignation to President John Mahama and is currently waiting for approval.

Since his election as the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr Portuphy has been under intense pressure to resign as NADMO boss.

His Deputy, Anita De-Soso also resigned from her position a few months after being elected vice chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Portuphy was the first National Coordinator of NADMO but was asked to proceed on leave when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over power in 2001.

He however returned to NADMO in January 2009 after the NDC was voted back into power.
