The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, has appealed to government to establish a pharmaceutical industry zone as part of its industrialization agenda.

The Society said this will propel Ghana to become a pharmaceutical hub in Africa.

President of the Society, Benjamin Botwe made the appeal during at the 83rd Annual General Meeting in Ho.

He hinted that the Society has engaged stakeholders in the industry and has put together a framework for the takeoff of the proposed pharmaceutical industry zone project pending government's support.

Responding to the Society's request for an industrial zone, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who was guest of honour gave the assurance that government has taken the necessary steps to ensure the project is actualized.

He expressed optimism that the project and the removal of trade barriers to inter-regional trade with regards to pharmaceutical products will give local companies the opportunity to take advantage of the vast ECOWAS market.
