Ghana will by the end of the year introduce the First Port Duty Rule at the various ports of entry across the country.

This move will see representatives of neighbouring countries stationed at the various entries to collect duties on goods, thereby curtailing smuggling through illegal routes.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who announced this at the 39th Annual Council and Conference of Port Management Association of West and Central Africa in Accra, also announced the introduction of the Manifest System at the Ports to ensure that operators get pre-arrival firsthand information on vessels before they enter the country's seaports.
