June 12th every year is observed as World Day Against Child Labour to raise awareness of the plight of child labourers world-wide. Numerous events are held on this day to call attention to the problem.

This year, the World Day Against Child Labour and the World Day for Safety and Health at Work throws the spotlight on the global need to improve the safety and health of young workers and end child labour.

This joint campaign aims to accelerate action to achieve Sustainable Development Goal target eight-eight of safe and secure working environments for all workers by 2030 and SDG target eight-seven for ending all forms of child labour by 2025.

Achieving these goals for the benefit of the next generation of global workforce requires a concerted and integrated approach to eliminate child labour and promote a culture of Prevention and Occupational Safety.

The UN is calling on member countries to move much faster if they are to honour their commitment to ending child labour.
