HIV/AIDS prevalence is dwindling in the East Akyem Municipality due to the intensive education embarked on by the Municipal Health Directorate.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Prosper Beni made this public during the Farmers DAY Celebration at Sokode Juaso, in the East Akyem Municipality.

He urged residents not to be complacent but join the crusade to make the Municipality HIV/AIDS free.

Dr. Beni advised residents to visit health facilities frequently to know their status.

He noted that some people are uncertain about the disease while others have taken the existence of the disease, for granted.

He said as a result of this, some people especially the youth are indulging in indiscriminate and unprotected sex.

Dr. Beni mentioned semen, vaginal fluid, blood and breast milk as other means by which the disease is contracted, aside the minor means like visiting the salon and barbering shops.

He said it has been established that about 80 percent of the disease is contracted through unprotected sex and therefore advised the public especially the youth to be cautious.
