At least five people are dead and several others injured following a dawn raid on Kalampor in the East Gonja District of the Northern Region.
Sources in Kalampor say the unidentified gunmen invaded the community just around the time that residents were preparing for dawn prayers and started shooting sporadically.
Though the motive is not yet known, Kalampor and a neighbouring community, Kafaba have a long standing chieftaincy issue.
In May last year, the two communities clashed leading to the deaths of more than eight people.
The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Yussif Tanko, has confirmed the incident, adding that, personnel have been dispatched to the area to restore calm.
Radio Ghana has also learnt that, the Northern Regional Security Council cancelled a scheduled trip to the Dalun Water Treatment Plant in Kumbungu, so that they could meet to discuss the Kalampor clash.
