In the Eastern Region, the day was marked in all the 26 Districts and Municipalities.
According to our reporter, Kwamina Onumah, the Kwahu West Municipality organized its event at Asuboni Rails near Nkawkaw where 28 hardworking livestock and crop farmers as well as Agricultural Extension Agents, were presented with their awards.
A 75-year old farmer from Asuboni Rail, Sampson Osei Appiah, who emerged the overall best, took home a motor bike while an Agricultural Extension Agent, Agnes Gyan, received a double decker refrigerator.
90 farmers who exhibited their farm produce were also given some consolation prizes.
Addressing the durbar, the Municipal Chief Executive, Yaw Owusu Addo, announced that two warehouses to store farm produce are to be constructed in the municipality of which Asuboni Rail is a beneficiary to help store farm produce to reduce post harvest losses and asked the public to embrace the government initiatives.
Mr. Owusu Addo implored the youth to develop interest in agriculture rather than migrating to urban towns and cities in search for non existing jobs.
