The Minister of Roads and Highways has announced the closure of the Buipe and Yapei bridges to allow for maintenance work.
The Ministry gave the Eastern corridor as one of the alternative routes.
However commuters and drivers say the road is in a terrible state and need urgent attention to prevent a complete cut off of the north from Southern Ghana.
GBC’s correspondent Murtallah Issah who visited the place reports that commuters are going through a tough time travelling on the alternative routes provided.
GBC’s Radio Ghana has also learnt that some unidentified persons are charging between GH¢40 and GH☼50 to allow vehicles cross the Yapei and Buipe bridges.
