The Okyehene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin says poverty should not be used as an excuse by illegal miners to destroy the country's land cover.

Speaking at the launch of a reclamation project by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources of degraded mining sites across the country, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Payin said former President Mahama once described Kyebi as the headquarters of illegal mining in Ghana and it is therefore appropriate that the reclamation start from the town.

He said the leadership and commitment shown by President Akufo Addo to stop the pollution of the country's water bodies is awesome.

He urged the President to continue with the good work on the war against illegal miners saying if for the sake of stopping illegal mining or decide to vote against him, he will be remembered for what he is able to achieve.
