The children of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani have kicked against attempts to perform the funeral of the late Overlord of Dagbon.

The children have also asked the government to identify and bring to justice persons who killed the late King.

At a press conference in Tamale on Wenesday, the children of the late King accused government of complicity in the death of their father and insisted that there can be no settlement of the Dagbon Chieftaincy dispute without bringing those who killed the late King to book.

Spokesperson for the group, Abdulai Yakubu Andani, said performing the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV in the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi will be a breach of Dagbon customs and traditions.

The latest development is a setback to government’s desire to see the resolution of the age old Dagbon Chieftaincy crisis.

Government has been collaborating with the three eminent chiefs tasked with resolving the Dagbon Chieftaincy crisis to see the performance of the funerals of the late Kings, which could pave the way for the enskinment of a substantive Ya Na.
