Ghana's Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged countries in the European Union to treat irregular migrants, especially from Africa, with dignity and respect while availing them of all opportunities for any appeal process.

He bemoaned the current visa regime by some European countries characterized by high rate of denial and exorbitant visa fees which frustrate African travelers.

He said such stringent measures contribute to the unorthodox means of travelling such as illegal and dangerous desert and sea voyages undertaken by the youth.

The Vice President was speaking at the opening of this year's Ghana-EU Political Dialogue in Accra.
