The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA, is to introduce a new Driver's Licence Smart Card to replace the existing license.

The move is to eliminate fake licenses in the system.

The new Smart Card has improved security features which cannot be duplicated.

Speaking at a news conference in Accra, the Director of Driver Training, Testing and Licensing, Cheyee Wienna Musah, said the new Smart Card will capture the bio-data and personal information of the applicant.

It has a unique design which depicts the culture of the country.

Mr. Musah said the authority will be printing the cards without going through a third party as was done previously.

The licence will be delivered to applicants within two to four weeks.

The New Driver's Licence will cost GH¢257.00.
