The MP for Adansi Asokwa, K T Hammond, has appeared before the Committee on Mines and Energy to justify why the House should rescind its earlier decision to approve the Ameri Energy deal.

Mr. Hammond said Ameri Energy has been found to have gone against some terms of its agreement with government.

He said after Parliament had approved the agreement, Ameri assigned its rights, interests and obligations to a subsidiary and Ameri Energy power did not undertake the project themselves as stipulated in their contract.

According to Mr Hammond, contrary to claims by minority members on the committee, Parliament has the basis to look into the matter and cited a previous case at the Supreme Court.

The Minority members on the Committee on Mines and Energy, boycotted the Committee's sitting today (October 18).
