Gov't Releases School Feeding Funds To Caterers

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGC&SP) says Ten Million Ghana Cedis (Gh¢10,000,000.00) has been released to enable it settle outstanding debt of caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP).

A statement signed by the Sector Minister, Otiko Afisah Djaba, said the funds are for the payment due them of second and third term of 2016/2017.

According to the statement, the National Secretariat of Ghana School Feeding Program is working on the reconciliations of the transactions executed within the last two academic terms between the GSFP caterers, MASLOC and suppliers of rice, maize and catering equipment to caterers on credit in the 2016/17 academic year.

The statement said there is a need for the GSFP secretariat to conduct proper and diligent reconciliations in order to pay accurate amounts to the caterers.

It therefore urged all School Feeding Caterers and MMDAs to exercise restraint and cooperate with the GFSP National Secretariat to ensure the speedy payment of the caterers.

The statement further assured all stakeholders of government's commitment to sustain the program and improve the quality meals to the school children.
